The Studio of I Made in artistic countryside has the long history since it was founded in 1983. I Made follows his long time family tradition creating wonderful pieces of art from wood sourced responsibly from his native island Bali and close by Island Java. I Made creates sculptures and furniture made of teak tree roots from teak plantations in Java Indonesia Unique sculptures and furniture are crafted from the roots of the teak tree. Each piece is totally different depending on the shape of the wood and the imagination of the sculptor, the root may become an abstract coffee table, chair etc. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The result of wood carving in his village has the immeasurable and wide directions like idol for the devoting (arca idol), representative dimensions of everyday Balinese social society life (Life of a farmer, fisherman, worker, intellectual, merchant etc), the abstract dimensions of actor imagination which is listening carefully to reality, dynamics and life philosophy.
Mas Village – Bali Wood Carving
Mas Village is one of traditional villages in Bali fundamentally identified as an artistic countryside by focusing on the art of wood carving. Mas Village is famously called Bali Wood Carving Center, it is located in Ubud sub district and Gianyar Regency, eastern part of Bali. It features the typical style of wood carving by placing forward the distinguished synergy, the humanism and naturalism. The village’s popularity as an art village has spread on national and world level. The famous maestro who was born in this village is I Made who found and follows the spirit (Taksu) and soul of Balinese art devotion .
